I love working with communities engaging with nature and materials. Happy to discuss ideas and tailor a project to your particular needs. Commissions and enquiries very welcome.
From the quarry on Portland to the footpath on Radipole…
With over 200 people putting mallet to chisel to stone…
From a square block of stone to a form reminiscent of an ammonite, a hawk, an ear…
A form with flow/expansion/uplift on one side, and with concentration/focus/intensity on the other…
From March 2013 to May 2014
Carving Relationships
A 3 day art & science workshop in June 2008 with students from Purbeck School. An introduction to my working practise in my studio, to Portland stone, both in the landscape and in the quarry factory, selection of their own stone, and then carving pieces to install in the central school courtyard. The students showed a remarkable focus and commitment to working in a completely new material and allowing their ideas to evolve.
Dorset Echo 20/03/08: Learning to reed
Antonia Philips and I worked with children from Chickerall + St. Johns Primary Schools in Weymouth exploring the materials and life of the reedbeds at RSPB Radipole Lake Reserve through a series of workshops – both on the reserve, and in the schools, form Sept 2007 to March 2008. Culminating in a delightfully upbeat celebration and exhibtion at Weymouth library, many of the children speaking for themselves of what they had learned and enjoyed. Students form Weymouth College made a DVD of the project which is available to view on request.
Funded by Awards for All, and initiated by the local RSPB group.
Reedshelter
